Now, I know why they call Mississippi the Hospitality State!
This past weekend, I was touched by women from all over the state who welcomed Fresh Grounded Faith with overwhelming kindness and a warm and welcoming spirit. In Mississippi, the tea is sweet, but the people are even sweeter!
Eli travels with us to our Fresh Grounded Faith conferences, and is such a HOOT! We love him. He is a representative from Compassion International, one of my all-time favorite causes and one we like to talk about at FGF.
I surprised him on stage with an opportunity … okay, a dare.
I asked him, in front of all the women so he couldn’t say no, if the ladies sponsored 50 kids, would he wear one of our Gutsy Girl tee shirts on stage?
The women roared with approval. He reluctantly agreed.
Well, since that went so well, I decided to step up the wager. I asked him, if the women sponsor 60 women, would he stand on stage in his new shirt and sing for us?
The women roared even louder. I’m afraid the poor guy had no choice but to agree!
I am infected. I got the infection in Ecuador. I caught it from a nine-year-old boy named Martin. He lives in a one room house in Quito with his two sisters. Their mother died three years ago and shortly after her death, their father left and hasn’t been seen since.
They live alone.
Have you ever had a fried, sugary plantain? I hate to admit it, but here in Quito, Phil and I can’t stop eating them. All the food here is good, but the plantains seem to be our downfall. Muy bueno!
Well, we made it to Ecuador.
We were stuck in Miami a little longer than we had hoped because–get this–a volcano erupted 90 miles south of Quito, and the ash still lingered in the air. Apparently, that makes air travel difficult. A little different from the states, huh?
