The Place Where Southern Hospitality Shines – FGF Highlights, Enterprise, AL

Did you know there’s a boll weevil monument in downtown Enterprise, Alabama? Friend, it’s true! And, this weekend at Fresh Grounded Faith, the sweet ladies of Enterprise told us all about it.

This 1919 landmark was erected to show appreciation to the boll weevil. But you might be surprised to hear why! You see, this beetle—who likes to feast on cotton buds and flowers—had actually destroyed the people of Enterprise’s crops. But, this community didn’t give up!

The farmers ended up producing peanuts instead. The result? Enterprise prospered, and the boll weevil got a monument! Cool story, right?

But, sister, as excited as the women of Enterprise are about a bug, they were even more excited to come together to worship God and encourage one another!

This was our second FGF in Enterprise, and it was wonderful to work with our Local Conference Coordinator, Kelli Owens, again. We’re so grateful for her and all of the wonderful volunteers from our host church, First Baptist Church Enterprise and all our co-host churches. They blessed us with their Southern accents and Southern hospitality! Our team was constantly being asked, “Can I get you anything?” and “Do you need any help?”

It was also wonderful to have Meredith Andrews, Katherine Wolf, and Shaun Groves with us again. As always, they were such a blessing!

And, girl, God did wonderful things! We celebrated 2 new sisters in Christ, 39 women who chose to renew their commitment to the Lord, and 52 children sponsored through Compassion International. Praise the Lord!

I’m so grateful to have spent the weekend with the women of Enterprise, Alabama. My heart is full and overflowing because of their Southern hospitality and great love for the Lord!
