What I Wish I’d Known Before I Wrote My First Book

Can I be honest?  Twelve years ago, my Dr. Phil and I were searching for answers on how to write and publish a book. We were clueless. We did the best we could – we attended writing conferences, talked with author friends, read books, and scoured the Internet. God opened doors and my first book, Lessons I Learned in the Dark was published in 2002. Hallelujah.

The biggest challenge was pulling together bits and pieces to make sense of it all. If you’ve felt the same way, I want to tell you about a resource from my long-time friend Michael Hyatt.   As my Dr. Phil stated in his endorsement, and I agree, “We wish we would have had this 12 years ago.”

Delaware Drinks in God’s Goodness

We returned Sunday from Fresh Grounded Faith (FGF) in Delaware and are running over with gratefulness.

I must say, I just love the sisters in the Northeast! They were so real and receptive. Our Conference Director, Theresa Wiggins, wrote a recap email to our staff this morning, and I couldn’t communicate what God did among us any better! So, here’s an excerpt from her email to give you a sip of Fresh Grounded Faith!

[Guest Post] God, Do You Care?

This is a guest post by Angie Vallejo. We asked Angie to share a personal story about a time in her life when she asked one of the questions Jennifer asks in her Bible study Missing Pieces: Real Hope When Life Doesn’t Make Sense. Enjoy Angie’s story. You can follow Angie on her blog here.

God, are you there? Because I really messed up this time. That was my somewhat hesitant, and very much hysterical, call to God back in late 1996 when I became pregnant.

I had been confident that my boyfriend, who had asked to marry me, would come through as the hero to rescue me and to set a date. And he did want to set the date, but not for the wedding . . . . for the abortion.

Teleseminar: The Ins and Outs of Writing a Bible Study

I love being involved in ministry. In fact, when I wrote my first Bible study many years ago, I had no idea how God would use an ordinary woman like me to speak to the hearts of thousands.

Perhaps you too have been called to use your God-given talents to write. Whether your passion is writing Bible studies or journal writing, I invite you to attend my upcoming teleseminar on Thursday, September 20 2012 at 12:00 pm/Central.  Here’s how we’ll use our 60 minutes: I’ll share about 35 minutes, and open it up for questions, for 25 minutes more.

How to Make Your Coffee Taste Even Better?

Attention coffee drinkers and those who love them:

Okay all you coffee lovers, I have a great tip for you today. I learned recently how to freshen up your coffee grounds to make a magnificent cup of Joe (if I do say so myself!)

My friend Angela learned from her friend Brandy that when you buy coffee that’s already ground, you should grind it again! Now, that’s a mouth full!

My Visit With 50 Cats

My Dr. Phil and I recently went on a cruise — just the two of us. It was so fun just to be together and relax and eat…eat…eat…eat…and eat some more! Well, you know…It’s a cruise!

The first port on our cruise was Key West, Florida.

Phil and I rented a scooter and put-putted about the island.

My favorite stop…The Hemingway Home nestled in the heart of Old Town Key West.

If you have read my blogs for a while you won’t be surprised! I do have a thing for dead authors! Novelist Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote here for more than ten years beginning in 1931.We stepped back in time as we meandered through the rooms and gardens that witnessed the most prolific period of this Nobel Prize winner’s writing career.
