How Do You Measure Up?

Spill The Beans

Jennifer,

I think women struggle with perfectionism and feelings of never measuring up.  What do our attempts to achieve perfection say about ourselves and our relationship with God?  What do our attempts say about who we believe God to be?

How Do You Set Boundaries?

Spill The Beans

Jennifer,

I need some advice on how to maintain a boundary when I’m not at work.  I work at the church that I attend!  I truly feel that I have not been to worship anymore.  People ask me to do things that should be done during my workweek.  I have been pulled out of my class while I was teaching to work!   I love helping people, but I need a better way to help people understand I’m not at work . If I don’t do it, they will go to the Student Minister who can’t say no either.

How Do You Find God Within Your Sadness?

Spill The Beans

Jennifer,

I had the privilege of seeing you in Springfield last November and have started receiving your monthly e-mails.  My son was diagnosed in 2007 with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.   The Lord has most certainly used this circumstance to draw me much closer to Him.  However, I continue to struggle with how to adequately cope with the sadness that overcomes me at times.  What advice can you offer for getting past the sadness and moving more to a place of hope and rest?

Respectfully, Debra

How Do You Gain a Rich and Meaningful Life?

Spill The Beans

Dear Jennifer,

How does someone make a life?  This sounds like an odd question considering that “everyone is sooo busy.”  Everyone but me.  I lost my life because of various factors.  I live in a small community and have been out of the workforce for eight years.  I don’t know how to get going again.

How Do I Find God?

Spill The Beans

Dear Jennifer,

In the past six months I have had more medical problems besides retinits pigmentosa, and the most important man in my life, my father, passed away.   Then my childhood girlfriend (since three years old) was murdered by her husband, and two more deaths in  the family.  Now my cousin that I am close too has M.S.   Fear has set inside me…and I haven’t felt so separated from the Lord.  Where can I find Him???

How Do You Respond to Hurtful Comments?

Spill The Beans

Dear Jennifer,

I am legally blind with retinitis pigmentosa.  I have spent lots of time leaning how to do things like crochet, run my home, take part in church activities, etc.  It has been a challenge, as you well know, but God has helped me all the way.  Many times I am told, “You can’t be too blind or you couldn’t do that” from sighted people, and I have to admit it hurts some.  With all of your accomplishments, do you get that response and does it bother you, or am I just being too sensitive or proud?  How do you respond to it?
